The International Summer School at Seiha, Japan’s most prestigious koto schools, features a one week, intensive program in English, for training in shakuhachi, koto, shamisen and voice. Monday, July 29 – Saturday, August 3, 2019. This course is open to all levels, from beginner to advanced players.

Program Highlights:

  • Study traditional Japanese instruments with world-class instructors at one of Japan’s most prestigious koto schools
  • Rehearse and perform with other musicians in the sankyoku ensemble setting
  • Attend evening lectures by top scholars on various topics in Japanese music

  • Yasuko Nakajima: koto
  • Kazuko Nakajima: shamisen and voice
  • Satoshi Utanoichi Okuda: koto, kokyū
  • Christopher Yohmei Blasdel: shakuhachi
